Mab was found at first light in the hollow where rain gathers, laid upon the moss with her head turned toward the wood and the white lace swaddled tight around her tiny form; no one saw who left her there. When the sun rose higher the lace held a scatter of small seeds caught in its pattern, each one fixed as if stitched in place. She did not cry, but lifted her head once and then lowered it again, listening. When the women reached for her she did not resist, but her fingers closed on the moss and would not release until the green tore free with the roots attached. That evening, where she had lain, a thin shoot had already risen, pale and deliberate.

Mab stands 15" (40cm) tall and  is entirely hand-stitched from vintage fabrics: black shantung, ivory lace, silk ribbon. She will hang in mid-air or against your wall, or sit happily upon a shelf, although you might want to keep your bedroom door shut overnight - Mab has a habit of nibbling people's noses when she's bored.
